AI IN FILMS

AI IN FILMS
From space-travelling, garbage-collecting robots, to artificial loving companions.
Our future robot overlords, on the big screen!

What is artificial intellig-ence?
Most simply put...
Artificial Intelligence is any sort of software or program that has the intention of replicating human behavior and/or learning patterns. It could be as simple as a program learning to process data as a human would, or as complex as being able to have a real conversation with another person, or cook food while utilizing a robot body. The possibilities are only growing day-by-day, so there's no telling what will come even a year down the line!
Because AI will change everything
AI has slowly begun to creep more and more into different fields. Robots have replaced a lot of menial labor, such as preparing food, or sorting through produce. Artificial Intelligence has even replaced customer service representatives. AI will have the capacity to completely replace tech jobs, restaurant workers, janitors, lawyers, financial advisors, and even teachers.
Okay... Why should I care?
WHERE DO MOVIES COME IN?
I'm so glad you asked!
Movies have the unique ability to shape public thoughts and opinions more so than any other art form. The themes and ideas we surround ourselves with will inevitably seep their way into our ideologies. The ways that movies display AI changes how people perceive them. If a movie presents AI as hostile, people might view them as such, and resist any sort of change. The opposite is true as well.

MY SENIOR THESIS
At the beginning of the year, I was interested in the field of artificial intelligence. This was furthered by AI growing and improving exponentially even just over the past few years. GPT-3 became widely available to the public and spiked in popularity. GPT-4 recently released and has expanded the horizons even further, allowing more developments in science, art, music, and automation to be made. It can complete many tasks better than any human, and is certain to be integral to our future.

“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it."
